Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes—while still in office—has founded and is running his own nonprofit business that seeks billionaires as clients. It purports to help wealthy foundations donate to charities that are not corrupt but rather “high impact.”
Attorneys general across the United States are charged with safeguarding the public against fraudulent charities and deceptive charitable fundraising tactics. Instead, Reyes makes false claims about his foundation, Liberate All, Value All, Inc. Reyes deceitfully asserts that as Utah‘s attorney general he makes sure the 7,000 charities in his state “are abiding by the rules.” In truth there is no oversight of Utah nonprofits. As an example, this report cites the charity, Rudy’s Kids, that was set up by former Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert. Gobert, who parties with Reyes, never registered his nonprofit in Utah as required by law. And he continued seeking donations after the IRS revoked his charity’s so-called 501c3 status which authorizes tax breaks for the charities and their donors.
