The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has decided to investigate endorsement of illegal betting apps by Tollywood actors and social media influencers. Sources indicate ED will soon register enforcement case information reports (ECIRs) and issue summons to the actors involved. The agency will initiate proceedings under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) based on the predicate offences recorded by police in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.

In Telangana, four cases have been registered in Miyapur, Panjagutta, Noothankal, and Cyberabad Cyber Crime police stations. Another case was registered with the Visakhapatnam Cyber Crime division. Investigations revealed heavy financial losses suffered by victims, allegedly due to the promotion of betting platforms by these celebrities.

Cyberabad police book YouTuber Harsha Sai

On Dec 11, 2024, Bandaru Venkatesh, a restaurant worker, lodged a complaint against YouTuber Kathira Harsha Sai. He claimed to have lost Rs 13,67,300 by investing in betting platforms like Parimatch and Lotus 365 after following links shared by Sai. He alleged that Sai falsely portrayed these platforms as legal and misled followers with fabricated winning claims. Following a media report exposing Sai’s involvement, Venkatesh sought a probe into the influencer’s financial transactions.
